A good whole body detox is extremely important for your general health. We need to get rid of built up wastes and the body has its own organs to take care of this function.

But many people believe that the accumulation of toxins takes place faster than the system’s capability to detox the body. Hence the need for a complete body detox. By complete body detox I mean cleaning the intestinal tract and colon, maintaining a healthy diet based on fruit and vegetables and removing toxic chemicals from the home.

There are people who have undertaken a natural whole body detox on a regular basis who will tell you that when you start a fast, the body goes into starvation mode. This means that your body will lose muscle during the fast and you will gain fat after the fasting is finished. As all attempts to detox the body involve a fast of some kind, you should be aware of the possibility that detoxing the body will not necessarily leave you looking good.

Using juice to fast is effective because it supplies the body with nutrients without giving it the burden of digesting food. Without needing to attend to digestion, the body can concentrate on ridding itself of toxins. If you do not want to go to the trouble of fasting, a diet of organic fruit and vegetables and large quantities of water will also serve as a whole body detox. Another way to detox the body is green tea. It contains antioxidants which help fight free radicals and emulsify fats.

There is a lemon juice diet used to detox the body but it basically cleanses the body without supplying it with the nutrients it needs. Without food, the body will look for these nutrients inside itself and the result will be less toxins and poorer health.

One of the most difficult steps in starting a complete body detox is making the decision to cleanse the colon with an enema. To many people colon cleansing is an important part of keeping our system clean but if you don’t like the idea of water shooting into your lower intestinal tract, stick to a high-fiber diet, exercise and herbal laxatives.
